This documentary shares the incredible story of Mrs. Sawyer's EC classroom at Lakewood Elementary, highlighting the students and teachers who make it all happen. This documentary focuses on how the students in the class are able to participate in the process of learning and enjoy that process, while developing meaningful relationships with their peers and teachers. Watching this documentary would not only increase one's awareness about the challenges that students with disabilities face in their education, but also reveal that having disabilities does not prevent anyone from being able to learn effectively or enjoy any aspect of the most important things in life, including relationships, security, and purpose.
I want to express immense gratitude to all of the teachers in the EC classroom and all of the students who learn there for inviting me into your lives and giving me the opportunity to share all of your incredible stories in the form of a documentary. I hope that this story makes you feel seen, heard, and beautifully represented, but also inspires others to learn more about the educational experience for students with disabilities and the teachers instructing them. The hard work all of you put into learning and teaching, despite the obvious challenges you face daily, has personally inspired me so much and motivated me to share the stories of people who may not often be represented in the mainstream.
