The Art of Play

By Ivy Morin

In Ms. Roberts' pre-kindergarten classroom, play is more than just fun -- it's a gateway to learning. Through activities like building blocks, playing house, and creating art, young children begin to discover the world, build critical skills, and take their first steps into formal education. My project explores how play becomes a powerful tool for growth and development, fostering creativity, collaboration, and resilience in these young students.

I feel so lucky to have spent time in Ms. Roberts' classroom. She works hard to create a space where her students feel excited to learn and explore, and it shows in everything she does. Watching her in action gave me a new appreciation for early childhood education and the profound impact it has on development. I also want to extend a huge thank you to the students, who were the heartbeat of this project. Their curiosity, laughter, and enthusiasm filled the classroom and made every moment a joy to photograph. Thank you for allowing me to capture and share this joyful, messy, and imaginative world of play.
